My little boys' progressing in leaps and bounds. He's gone from a shy, skittish little fid who only ever ate seeds to a happy, healthy, sometimes attitudinal little guy who still loves seed, but will sometimes eat pellets and adores fresh fruit, especially strawberries and mandarin. He also doesn't mind corn and carrot, when it's cooked lightly. He doesn't eat lettuce so much as shred it and use it to decorate lol. When the pears ripen, I'll be trying that on him too. He'll peck at nuts occasionally, but doesn't appear a big fan. Oh well!
His beak was stained with strawberry juice, and the last of the flaking is coming off. Mark watched today as my little fid threw around shredded mandarin peel and squished up fruit into my jeans :}
It's nice to see him trying new foods so willingly.

A lot has happened!

I'll just make a note of it, in case I need to refer to it in the future!

~ Bought Luen a dusty rose flight suit and raspberry leash from Avian Fashions. As of yet, no luck getting him to wear it.
~ Luen saw the vet on Friday the 1st of August.
~ Bought cat carrier for Luen.
~ Moved Luens' cage to the dining room.
~ Have tried my claw at making some destructable toys for Luen out of cardboard tubes and popsticks. Want to try foam cups soon too.
~ Took lots of pics of Luen and posted them to Parrot Lovers under main account, muchikins.

Luen's no longer addicted to sunflower oil, but I'll offer him a sunflower seed occasionally as a treat.
He's a lot more used to flying, and is landing better. He's also a lot more confident about landing on the ground and walking about. In general, a lot more confident.
He's been a bit nippy lately, and is currently destroying my hair. He's throwing more tantrums, but I can live with that.
Training sort of died, but will resume soon. Will update with anything of interest.

Luen's not dealing well with sunflower withdrawal, but otherwise seems fine. His sleep pattern has been a little messed up, which is not helped by the fact my brother thinks throwing a blanket over the cage solves everything -_-; I'm trying to sort that out, as well as teach Araluen to stop landing on my head! That could be going better. I guess I should feel flattered he considers it a safe place... but it's rally not a good idea to get him used to it.
Trying to convert his diet to pellets instead of seed... Something that could also be going better. When first introduced to pellets, he scrambled to the bottom of the cage to scrounge for any seeds he may have left down there. Eew. So now I have a 50/50 mix of seed (minus sunflower) and the pellets, and keep offering him cooked carrot and corn. He's nibbled a bit of corn, but only ate about three pieces before ignoring the rest. At least he tried it.
He's exploring a bit more - realising he has wings and is allowed to use them for things other than flapping about screaming for attention. More often than not he'll just do a loop about the room before coming back to land on me, however he has decided to like Heidi too :} Which is cute. She's a lot more tolerant of Luen than Gav too... Gav's being a pain - I've told him over and over that yelling back when Luen's being loud DOES NOT HELP and all he does is make stupid annoying and (thankfully) empty threats about cooking Luen -_-; But Gav's been an irritable little shit to EVERYONE lately (myself and Jack included) so that's not really news. Whatever the problem is, he needs to GET OVER IT fast.
Little Luen is a lot more vocal lately too...
Oh, and he did really well at the last meet I hosted. There were (and I guess) about 20 people over and Luen behaved rather well, hardly any screaming and no hard biting. He also seems rather fond of Mark :}
So yes. That's all for now. Haven't uploaded the latest videos, but I will try to!

Luen had about an hour of out-of-cage cuddle time. He sat quite happily on my hands chewing my fingers/gloves... And seems to really love neck-rubs. He was a little eager to scale my arm and perch on my shoulder (made it up there twice) but was quickly moved back down to my hand. While he hasn't learnt the command 'step-up'... He will climb onto my hand if it's a little higher than the perch he's on.
Only snag? While on the couch, he jumped onto the throw-rug I had over the washing (to protect from poop) and his toenails got caught, causing him to panic and take flight... right UP. He's not hurt, thankfully, but he flapped about the roof for a bit before settling atop the xmas decorations above the wall oven.
He seemed a little stressed though, so I put him back into his cage (surprisingly easy) and hand-fed him some sunflower seeds.
He was amazingly calm around everyone in the house, despite declining to 'step-up' onto Sam or Heidis' hands. It'll just take time. Jack and Gav weren't too keen to try, probably because Gav was my ferrets' chew toy years ago, and two weeks ago, when Luen was still 'wild', Jack was the one who picked him up and suffered the beaky wrath. So they're not too keen to hold Luen yet anyway.
Jack filmed me talking to Jack, Sam and Gav in the dining room with Luen preening on my hand, and I will be uploading it later :} Already have it on Jack's computer, just have to crop out the boring bits. Oh, and I was holding my head back, so I have the WORST double chin ever. Eew.
Luen just keeps impressing me! ^_^

I sat petting Luen for half an hour today, scritching his crest and neck while he nibbled and beaked my fingers.
Not through the bars, either.

PS. Two weeks. Even I'm impressed he's improved so fast.

So!
Bought Luen $50 worth of new toys... so naturally, he's ignoring them to chew the seed treat stick. That said, he sits and plays tug-o-war with it, me holding the other end. He also lets me pet his beak when doing so, and 'beaked' my finger today. Unfortunately, my brother came over to talk to me as he did so, and Luen disappeared to explore one of the fruit-kabobs. Saw an adorable rainbow boing, but there's no space to hang one in Luen's cage yet, so I didn't get it.
He's a LOT more confident, and seems to have fun when I jiggle the rope perch with him on it. He's also pecking at seed treat sticks (with the treat on them, lol) I hold up to him, but I'm cutting down on how much he's allowed to have per day. Also trying to find someone to sell me Roudybush... I want low-fat daily maintenance pellets... In size small. I only want to 44ounce/1.2kilo pouch to start off with, because I want to see how he takes to them... And I want low-fat because I've been told again and again that galahs have a tendency to get fat.
Have taken him outside in the cage a few times, he seemed to love that... While out there he gets a bath and to sunbathe. Says something about Australia that we're in winter now, and I had to move Luen to the shade because we were getting too warm XD
Heidi and I bought a birdbath and I've put some seed outside the living room window. Okay, so this part isn't about Luen, but it IS birdy.
Neighbours seemed delighted to see Luen and I sitting out front. Dawn, one of my elderly neighbours, came over and chatted to me for a while, and commented on hos pretty Luens' looking. Also, the little kid from one of the back units came over to have a stickybeak. Luen didn't flee to the back of the cage, but he decided to keep off the fron perch for a bit. I'm hoping their interest means they're not bothered about his noise.
I guess thats' all for now. I'll take some pics of his new toys soon, and post them when I can :}
